"The hilarious dialog and the tension between Savannah and Rafe will delight fans of chick-lit mysteries and romantic suspense." Jo Ann Vicarel, Library Journal
Savannah Martin has always been a good girl, doing what was expected and fully expecting life to fall into place in its turn. But when her perfect husband turns out to be a lying, cheating slimeball—and bad in bed to boot—Savannah kicks the jerk to the curb and embarks on life on her own terms. With a new apartment, a new career, and a brand new outlook on life, she’s all set to take the world by storm.
If only the world would stop throwing her curveballs...
Silver bells, silver bells...
It's Christmas time in Nashville, and all Savannah wants to unwrap on Christmas morning is Rafe Collier. Unfortunately, things don't look so good. He's back in town, but not alone on his arm is a stunning brunette, just the kind of woman Savannah always suspected was his type.
When Alexandra Puckett asks her help in figuring out a way to stop Maybelle Driscoll from marrying Alex's father Steven, Savannah jumps on the chance. It'll give her something to think about other than Rafe and the mysterious Carmen, and anyway, she doesn't like Maybelle much herself.
Between investigating Maybelle's past, helping her clients Aislynn and Kylie buy a house, and stalking Carmen and Rafe, Savannah soon has her hands full. And that's before someone starts gunning for her. Suddenly it's not a question of unwrapping anything on Christmas morning anymore; it's a question of whether she'll even survive to see another Christmas.
“I have loved this series since book one and have enjoyed being along for the ride as Savannah has grown from the princess on the hill who tried to live up to her mother’s outdated expectations into a strong woman who stands up for her own beliefs and the man she loves. Jenna Bennett has tackled a sensitive subject with honesty, Southern charm, and laugh out loud humor. And the series keeps getting better. I can’t wait for the next one.” Reviewer Karli

Generally, I do not read anything smacking of category romance so I picked up the first in the Samantha Martin series by accident. I was immediately captivated. The heroine was amusing and well drawn and Rafe was the perfect bad boy. The sexual tension was fun and the banter between Rafe and Samantha witty. The mystery wasn't too complicated but it wasn't supposed to be and it had enough twists to keep me reading. Caught up in Samantha and Rafe's relationship -- or lack thereof--I immediately downloaded all the available mysteries. The first three didn't disappoint. The fourth, where Samanta becomes pregnant, lost a lot of its sparkle but there's only so long you can keep the hero and heroine apart, right? However, I was very disappointed by The Done Deal. Samantha might be naive, but she's not stupid and many of her actions in "Done" made no sense. She reverted to the typical romance heroine, who behaves in predictably dumb and illogical ways. Humor went out the window. She bounced from one ill-thought catastrophe to the next without any motivation other than the author trying to move the characters around for the sake of the plot. When three attempts upon her life are made in one day, I rolled my eyes. The scene at the nightclub was so over the top, and Samantha's motivation for being there in the first place so ridiculous I wondered whether she had left her brains at the office.
It's difficult to keep the sexual tension going after a couple is together and the mysteries were getting a little clunky but I figured the author was adept enough to successfully make the transition and to surprise us with further enjoyable adventures.
After finishing Done and the subsequent novella, I don't think so. For me Samantha and Rafe have run their course. I certainly enjoyed their misadventures and their relationship but in my opinion the Samantha Martin mysteries have lost their magic. I hope the author will create other fascinating and fun characters and leave Samantha and Rafe to happily enjoy their relationship and their lives in private.

A Done Deal A Savannah Martin Novel Savannah Martin Mysteries Book 5 edition by Jenna Bennett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
After I got over all of the angst (palpable, delicious angst) in the last book, I grabbed a copy of what I hope is the next and not last book in the series. We pick up pretty much where we left off with one exception Savannah Martin has traded her simper for some real backbone. The tragedies she endured in the last book tempered her into a real Steel Magnolia. She's ready to grab hold of her man and never let him go, family, small town gossips, and her own prejudices be damned.
If she doesn't kill him first, along with the new woman on his arm.
Woven into the mystery are touches of humor and some deadly serious conversations that make for a compelling story. For me, the best parts come in small gestures with big impacts - as in Savannah taking hold of Rafe's hand when Mama walks in, delivering the unspoken ultimatum, 'Be nice, or else.' That Rafe had the guts to show up at the Martin Mansion at all speaks volumes about his regard for Savannah, even more so than his Herculean efforts to end his undercover gig early (and while still alive) so he could be free to pursue a real relationship with her.
Since I'm not above begging on public forums - Please, oh please Bente, we want some more!
Jenna Bennett's " A Deal Done #5 " provides the on going tale of love's and mysteries of Savanna Martin life and adventure in the middle of Tennessee. I`ve become a fan.
I think you have to be born in the South to completely understand the character. That's how it was and to some extent probably still is. I can't get enough of the characters and the story lines keep me involved. I am up to book 5 and will complete the series. Keep writing, please.
She. Finally. Grew. A. Set.
Heck freaking yes.
This book was everything I could want it to be. I can't wait to read the .5.
Great story! Very well written.... Each story in this series can stand alone as a great read.... Reading them one after another is super special as you come to know the characters. Never know what is coming next and how Savannah and Rafe will fare... Highly recommend!
The Savannah Martin series has been a fabulous blend of romance and mystery--well written. It is a bit much to constantly have an adult's behavior monitored and determined by what mama thinks. Another annoyance was the regular reference to what the standards of the "southern young lady," require or dictate. In this book Savannah grows up and sets mama straight. I could not believe how abruptly the book ended--give us more after all this time with "will it be Rafe?"
Loved the entire series with Savannah Martin and Rafe Collier. As the Southern born and bred daughter of a well-to-do family, she has become independent and pursuing a career as a realtor. When she meets and discovers she is in love with Rafe Collier who was born in a less desirable part of town, her life changes dramatically. Savannah becomes involved in a series of murders and also finds out that Rafe is working undercover for the police. Juggling her feelings for her current beau, who is the perfect gentleman and wants to marry her, and Rafe becomes the ultimate storyline along with constantly being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Getting in trouble is her forte and Rafe finds out that Savannah is the woman for him. He does whatever it takes to protect her. Lots of twists and turns in this "who dunnit" and makes for a good read leaving you wanting more!!
