I like scary, creepy stories as much as anyone but I can't abide hearing about an animal being abused. Within the first few pages of this account a poor, elderly dog is being tortured in a bathroom by the subject. Was the man possessed by a demon? Does he end up killing the dog? I'll never know because the description was so hideous and disturbing I couldn't read further. I won't be finishing this book. The author (and many reviews) warn that people who are overly sensitive should abstain from reading this. Please add to that "those who love animals" and don't want to be confronted with descriptions of animal cruelty.
This is a good read. it is kind of a . creepy story. It comes as a typical demon enters a human body and does the most evil things it. on the scary scale I would give this one a 6.5.
I really enjoyed this book. The author isn't a writer and I liked that about it. It reads like a normal person wrote it. Almost like a journal. I found it to be more believable bcuz of that. You can feel his fear when u read it. I wouldn't read this if I lived alone or at night. It's that scary.
This story was truly creepy. I gave it 4 stars because it was so short, I read it in about half an hour...before bed. Not recommended, it gave me nightmares. If these events truly happened, none of us should ever sleep again.
I like the author's rather abstract style of writing. Author is clearly British, so I hope readers take into consideration the grammar and slang used in the narrative differ greatly from American writers. Author is blunt and to the point and I found how he chooses to describe his observations very comical. Additionally, I always speculated many cases of psychiatric illnesses are just misdiagnosed demonic possessions. My thanks to the author for addressing this.
Cole, which I understand is a pseudonym, has written a story that he claims is based on his truth and line of work. By reading, I could tell that the author is educated but not in writing. That's OK with this story. The facts ring true with this writing style. If I had undergone what the author had, I would bury myself under a rock with my Bible, so I think sharing this story is his way of dealing with the trauma. Read this story and comment on what you believe.
ADAMANT WARNING This book is absolutely, positively NOT MEANT FOR CHILDREN, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. IT WOULD ALSO BE WISE FOR TEENS AND MANY MANY ADULTS not to read this book. It will absolutely positively screw up your perception of this world as a safe place! By all means, PARENTS Don't stir up curiosity in ones too young to know what their own safety involves, this book may well light a fire which you will not be able to put out.

Yes, what I read of it, I loved or hated really a lot?!? The author of this book is not in the least overselling this book when he warns the reader to put the book down if squeamish, nervous, sensitive is one of the descriptors you would use for yourself. I didn't make it very far into the book when it broke me, and I've been reading books like this for decades. I'll update this review if I get around to reading the any additional pages, but only if I can do so and remain outside of the asylum.

Evil by Laurence Cole is purported to be the recollections of one Mental Health Staff member regarding an event that changed his reality. Before I go any further I feel extremely obligated to offer the following warnings it is graphic and disturbing.

The book is a brief story as it is only 21 pages long (which includes the author’s note and a Postscript); however it is only 99¢, and only available as an E-Book. Evil does not attempt to affect your beliefs, but it feels as if you are reading the journal of the Mental Health Staff member. So much so, that I did a little research (because there are a lot of reviewers who scoff at the story and say that it is fiction) and I found the event described in Evil reported in UK news articles back in March of 2014.

There are parts of this story which I had to actually stop reading for a moment and take a breather, not because I was scared but because the graphic descriptions were difficult to want to read. Evil could use a good Editor or even a basic Proof-reader. There is enough grammatical errors that it becomes noticeable and makes understanding the story toilsome. There are a few errors that I took as a novice retelling something incredibly traumatic. Such as, the Mental Health Night Staffer who went along as an assist when Mr. Cole first visited Alex (the antagonist) - this staff’s name was Elizabeth but as the author began to delve deeper into the traumatic episode the Staffer is called Pauline twice (maybe it’s her actual name, as the author states that he changed the names of those involved in the events). This happened again towards the end at another traumatic retelling, the Mental Health Nurse whose name was Helen is called Margaret.

Although Alex’s girlfriend initially stated that Alex was possessed, the author does not believe in possession and gives the girlfriend’s statement little credence. You get the feeling that this story was something the author had to write down, that it was troubling for him and he needed an outlet. In the end, his beliefs and his professional views on Psychiatry have all been turned upside down.

I would recommend this book if you are not squeamish or easily offended. I do not believe the author attempts to offend, he is simply re-telling his POV on a case that continues to haunt him.

Quote from Evil by Laurence Cole “I was getting a bad feeling from him. I’ve been in lots of situations with violent men and I’m pretty good… at reading when they are going to kick off and when I’m in personal danger.”
